A young boy with ambitions to become the next Tiger Woods will compete in the boys' 9s section of the US Kids' Golf European Championships which starts today (Tuesday).

Rhys Brown, nine, of College Road, Sittingbourne, is one of 500 youngsters from all over the world who will be battling it out in the three-day event in Scotland.

The top five finishers in each age and gender group automatically receive an invitation to the US Kids' Golf World Championships at Pinehurst Golf Club, North Carolina, in August.

The Tunstall Primary School pupil, who plays off a handicap of 21, came eighth when he competed last year.

He finished 10th in the Desert Shoot Out golfing competition in Arizona last December and won the East Kent Cubs' Championships under 10s section in April.

Anyone interested in sponsoring Rhys can contact his mum Ester on 07783 999971.
