A249 reopens after caravan fire

Police have re-opened a key route linking Sittingbourne and Maidstone following hours of closures to allow an investigation into a caravan fire.

The southbound carriageway of the A249 between junction seven of the M20 and junction five of the M2 was closed since around 7.30am following the incident.

The Sittingbourne bound carriageway opened just before 10.30am.

A person was taken to hospital with a possible broken leg and cuts after officer received a report of a fire and someone carrying a weapon.

A man has since been arrested on suspicion of arson.
