A school was put into lockdown this morning after a member of staff was taken seriously ill.

Parents were sent an email from Sittingbourne's Fulston Manor School head teacher Alan Brookes to say corridors were closed off while the person was moved from the staff room.

They were treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.

Mr Brookes said: "I would like to express my appreciation both to school staff and members of the emergency services who responded so quickly to this situation and am certain you will wish to join with me in extending good wishes to the member of staff concerned."

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said: "I can confirm we were called shortly before 9.30am today to the school to reports a person had collapsed.

"Ambulance crews attended and treated the adult patient before they were taken to William Harvey Hospital."

He added that he did not have an age or gender for the patient.
