A teenager from Sittingbourne has returned to the West End stage, this time opposite comedian Miranda Hart in Annie.

Charlotte Ross-Gower is playing Pepper, an orphan in Miss Hannigan’s orphanage, in front of packed audiences at the Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End.

The 14-year-old has previously played roles in Billy Elliot and Matilda.

Charlotte found out she had the part in Annie on her birthday. “It was the best birthday present ever,” she said.

The teenager has been attending dance school since she was three. “When I was seven I got a part in the Stage Theatre Society’s production of Billy Elliot – as the smallest ballet girl,” she said. “When I saw the West End production I was determined to audition for it – and got a part in that too.”

“My character in Annie, Pepper, is around 12 years old – one of the older and taller orphans. She is mean and tough – in fact, a bit of a bully.

“She doesn’t like the other orphans – particularly Molly, the smallest – and pretends she doesn’t need anyone. She tells Miss Hannigan lies about the others, hoping to win her attention.”

Miranda Hart plays orphan manager Miss Hannigan. “I am a huge fan of Miranda,” says Charlotte. “I couldn’t believe I was going to work with her. She is very funny and really nice.”

She added: “I love working with such a talented group of people. I love my team – we are all great friends. I can’t wait to get back there whenever we have time off.

Annie continues until January 6 next year. For more details or to book tickets, vist anniewestend.com or call 0844 8717630.
