A family has been hit by a house fire - for the second time in just 27 days.

Katie Scamp, her six children and fiance Mark, had only been in the AmicusHorizon property two days when a fire broke out in a cupboard under the stairs.

Two appliances from Sittingbourne fire station were called to the blaze at the house in Meads Avenue, Quinton, at 8.50pm yesterday.

The fire was discovered by 17-year-old Lavinia, when she returned home after visiting a fair with her nine-year-old brother Thomas.

On May 18, firefighters were called to the family's home of 14 years in Saffron Way, Milton Regis, after a fire broke out in the back bedroom.

Kent police has confirmed both fires are not being treated as suspicious.

Step dad Mark said: "To happen once in your lifetime is one too many; to happen twice, well, I can't find the words to put it in. We are embarrassed. It's like it's suspicious even though the police have said it's not."
