A fire crew had a very different type of call when they were called to a snake trapped in a ring.

The pet corn snake, measuring about 2ft in length and just under one inch wide, got stuck in its owner's engagement ring after its scales got caught after she took it off.

Firefighters were sent to help the reptile in Crocus Drive, Sittingbourne, at about 8.30pm yesterday.

Sittingbourne Fire Station crew manager, Mat Barney, said the owners had tried to use lubricant to help it slide out but could not shift it.

Mr Barney said: "We went along and used the ring cutters to cut it in two places so the ring just came apart in two bits.

"One firefighter and the owner held the snake while we worked on taking the ring apart.

"It took about 10 minutes from start to finish to take the ring off."

Fire crews are sometimes approached to remove rings when they get trapped on fingers.
