An appeal over whether speedway racing can be extended at Sittingbourne’s Central Park stadium will be heard later this month.

The Planning Inspectorate was due to hold a public inquiry in the council chamber at Swale House, East Street, Sittingbourne, back in February but the case was adjourned after the barrister who was due to represent stadium boss Roger Cearns was taken ill.

Mr Cearns launched an appeal after Swale council refused permission to extend the period it runs the motorbike racing events from one year to seven.

More than 200 letters of objection were sent in over the original application after the Speedway Action Group urged people to complain. The main concerns were over noise and an increase in traffic.

The hearing, which is expected to last three days, will be held at The Woodcombe Sports and Social Club, in Church Road, Murston, from 10am on Tuesday, April 27.
