Speedway hearing delayed

An appeal about whether speedway racing can be held at Central Park Stadium in Sittingbourne, has been delayed.

The Planning Inspectorate was due to hold a public inquiry in the council chamber at Swale House, East Street, Sittingbourne, on February 16 and 17.

However, the case was adjourned until April after the barrister who was due to represent stadium boss Roger Cearns (pictured), was taken ill.

Mr Cearns launched an appeal after Swale council refused permission to extend the period it runs the motorbike racing events from one year to seven.

More than 200 letters of objection were sent in over the original application after the Speedway Action Group urged people to complain.

The main concerns about motorbike racing being held at the stadium in Church Road, were noise and an increase in traffic.
