Jake Kerswell of Beach View Villas remanded in custody following alleged stabbing in Sittingbourne

A man charged with attacking a man and a woman has been remanded in custody after appearing in court.

Jake Kerswell appeared at Maidstone Magistrates' Court this morning accused of wounding with intent and assault.

The 22-year-old, of Beach View Villas in Sheerness, will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, April 27.

The incident took place in Sittingbourne's Harold Road

Kerswell appeared in the dock wearing a grey jumper and gave no indication of his plea.

It is alleged a knife was involved in the attack but he denied any knowledge of the weapon.

The incident happened at 11pm on Friday night.

Police were called to a food outlet close to the attack, near the junction of Canterbury Road and Harold Street in Sittingbourne, following a report that a woman had been assaulted.

It is reported that two members of the public who tried to intervene were then attacked with a knife, causing serious injuries.

A 27-year-old man was stabbed in the buttock and needed surgery.

The woman suffered minor injuries.

Police called to Eastchurch

A 50-year-old man suffered a serious facial injury needing reconstructive surgery and is now out of hospital. No charge has yet been brought for this offence.

A 25-year-old and 24-year-old, also arrested, have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
