St George's Day celebrations will get under way in Sittingbourne tomorrow (Saturday).

The town centre will be brought to life from 9.30am to 4.30pm with a static display of classic cars along the High Street, live bands, children’s rides and craft stalls.

Youngsters can have their faces painted for free, watch a Punch and Judy show and get up close and personal with owls.

There will also be a treasure hunt.

The event has been organised by the Sittingbourne Retail Association.

Association member Nigel Fosbraey, who runs Autowash Domestic Appliance, said: “This day is becoming very popular and is now the only day-long High Street community attraction in the year.

“The last four years of the St George’s Day celebrations has seen a massive growth in the amount of people who come to the town to join in.

“Last year was the busiest yet and we expect it to be even better this year.

“Every business in the High Street needs to be able to promote and show itself to the community it serves.”
