A Co-op lorry caused traffic in Milton Regis High Street to grind to a halt after it hit a zebra crossing pole.

The incident happened just before 5pm yesterday outside the alleyway between the company’s supermarket and the dental clinic.

The police attended the incident and put in traffic control measures

The driver was reportedly attempting to turn into the narrow drive between the two business premises. The pole became wedged under the lorry.

Emergency crews were called to the accident which caused delays to drivers.

A police spokesman said: "Officers assisted with traffic management until UK Power Networks' engineers were able to attend and remove the pole at 10.50pm.

"No injuries were reported."
