Trains on the Sheerness line, which serves the Isle of Sheppey and stations around Sittingbourne, have just starting running again, but disruption is still expected.

There were also disruptions on the Chatham line, affecting services to and from London, but these are beginning to move again.

According to a tweet by Southeastern, rail replacement buses are running.

This was believed to have been due to a faulty train at Sittingbourne station but according to Southeastern, it was caused by signal failures.

A Southeastern spokesman said: “We’re sorry to any passengers who have been delayed today, an earlier train fault between Sheerness-on-Sea and Sittingbourne resulted in delays to some services.

"The train was moved and rail replacement buses were put in place, and the line is now open.

"If you’ve been delayed by 30 minutes or more please remember to claim Delay Repay compensation by visiting our website or calling our Customer Services team.”

Replacement buses were ordered to run between Sheerness and Sittingbourne.
