A group of travellers who set up an unauthorised camp at a Sittingbourne housing estate has been moved on.

On Wednesday, the group was issued a legal notice by police and Swale council ordering them to move by 9am today.

The caravans had parked up on land running off Argent Way at Sonora Fields.

The group was ordered to leave by 9am this morning

They started arriving on Tuesday afternoon and witnesses reported seeing up to seven police cars at the site soon after.

This morning, the council confirmed the entire group had almost left, but teams would need to come back for one van.

A council spokesman said: "The travellers have now all but left the site and we expect them to remove the remaining vehicle soon.

"We’ll then be able make sure the site is cleared so it can once again be enjoyed by local people.”
