Police arrest two men in Newington near Sittingbourne on suspicion of assault and possession of firearm

Two men have been arrested following reports of a man with a firearm in a shop.

Police were called to Station Road, Rainham shortly after 8pm yesterday (October 12) after a man was seen entering the shop with a suspected firearm.

Police arrested two men in Newington, Sittingbourne this afternoon (October 13)

He was with two others. There were also reports of an assault on another person in the shop.

Today, two men were arrested in Newington, near Sittingbourne, at about 3pm this afternoon in connection with the incident.

One person, who witnessed the arrest, said “a van was pulled over and two men pulled out and handcuffed”.

A spokesman for the force said: “Officers, including firearms officers, carried out inquiries and, at around 3pm on Friday (October 13), two men were arrested in connection with the incident in Playstool Road, Newington.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
