Registration has opened for annual Sittingbourne Invicta 10km race

If your new year’s resolution is to get fit then why not set yourself a goal and start training for the annual Sittingbourne Invicta 10k race.

Participants will set off from the playing fields of Westlands School in Sittingbourne, at 11am on Sunday, May 17.

The route will follow country roads along a measured route before returning to the start. There is just one short stretch of off-road running.

Listed in Runner’s World, the event is approved by UK Athletics.

A registration fee of £12 for affiliated runners and £14 for non-affiliated runners must accompany each entry form.

On the day registration will open at 9am and close at 10.15am. The fee is £14 for affiliated runners and £16 for non-affiliated runners.

Everyone who completes the course will receive a medal and a goody bag. There will also be trophies for male and female winners.

Times to beat are: best male - Ben Tyler of Medway and Maidstone in 33min 21sec (May 2014) and best female - Liz Weeks of Sittingbourne Striders in 37min 17sec (May 2013).

The maximum entry is 500 runners with the minimum age of those taking part being 16.

An official race number will be assigned to each runner on the day and chip timing will be used.

Food and drinks will be available.

A 2K fun run will also be held at 9.45am on the same day. Registration is between 9am and 9.30am and the entry fee is £2.50.

All funds raised will go to Swale Youth Development Fund and Sittingbourne Rotary Club’s community chest which supports a number of smaller local clubs and groups.

The previous four 10K races have raised £25,700 for various charities.
