Hear ye, hear ye! Men with loud voices are being urged to audition for the role of town crier at this year’s Medieval Mops Fair.

Those wanting to put themselves forward for the voluntary position are asked to meet at Phoenix House, Central Avenue, Sittingbourne, at 11am this Saturday.

Participants will then be taken to the Bargeman statue in Sittingbourne High Street for their vocal test. Two men auditioned in the first round last weekend.

A shortlist of finalists will be drawn up for a face-off at the same location and time on Saturday, September 13 during which shoppers will be asked to vote for their favourite entrant by clapping.

However, if the audience can’t decide, Sittingbourne Retail Association’s (SRA) events team, which has arranged the fair, will have the final say on the winner.

The chosen candidate, who will be provided with an outfit to wear and refreshments, will be expected to announce events going on during the celebrations which takes place between 11am and 5pm on Saturday, September 20.

Attractions include a hog roast, minstrels, a jester, actors, dance displays and fairground attractions.

It will also include a worldwide array of food from “today and yesterday” as well as wooden cart racing and craft-makers.

Performers and traders will be dressed in costumes of the Middle Ages, with some buildings also being decked out in medieval livery.
