Co-operative Funeralcare workers offer to spruce up war memorial in Central Avenue, Sittingbourne

One woman’s suggestion has led to the town’s war memorial being cleaned at no cost to the Royal British Legion.
Every Remembrance Day, community liaison officer Nuala O’Donoghue lays a wreath at the monument in Central Avenue on behalf of Co-operative Funeralcare.
So when she noticed it was looking a bit dirty and in need of a bit of TLC she decided to approach her manager Lisa Wise and ask if there was anything they could do to spruce it up.
The company’s monumental masons Steve Setchfield and Mick Harris offered to do the cleaning with Swale council agreeing to foot the cost of the scaffolding needed.
Work started on Monday and is expected to take 12 days.
