TWO teenagers who refused to climb down from the roof of a high street building, causing the road to be closed for five hours, have been bailed by police pending further inquiries.

A 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy, both from Sittingbourne, were among four teenagers who got onto the roof of the three-storey HSBC Bank in Sittingbourne High Street last Wednesday evening.

A police officer on foot patrol noticed them on the roof and two of the youngsters came down quickly, but it took trained police negotiators five hours to coax the other two down before they were arrested.

Part of the High Street was cordoned off during the incident. The girl came quite close to the edge of the roof and police were concerned for her safety.

At one point, the youngsters were throwing pieces of wood to the ground and police say a TV aerial, slates and tiles were damaged during the incident.
