A SITTINGBOURNE judoist has returned from an international tournament with a bronze medal.

Colin Carrott, who trains and coaches at the Sittingbourne Young Judo Club/Warriors Grappling Academy, finished third at the World Masters Sambo Wrestling Championships in Moudania, Greece

Carrott, 47, competed in the under 90kg class (age 45 - 49). He beat an opponent from France to gain the bronze, winning a close bout 4-3.

Sambo is a modern martial art and combat sport developed in the former Soviet Union.

Carrott only took up judo when he was 34, partly because his two sons were involved with their local Hawkinge Judo Club.

His youngest son Danny has been selected for the World Senior Championships in Prague next month (November).
