Kent Kings climbed to third place in the National League with a 56-36 home victory over Stoke Potters on Monday night.

Kings were missing captain Simon Lambert, who broke his hand guesting for Stoke at Coventry on Friday night.

But Central Park favourite Benji Compton put his own injury problems behind him by top-scoring with 15 points as Kings beat play-off rivals Potters for the first time in five attempts.

All six Kent riders won at least one heat, with the points tally completed by stand-in skipper David Mason (12+2), Aaron Baseby (10+2), Ben Morley (8+1), Jason Garrad (6+1) and Danny Ayres (5+1).

Mason took on fellow veteran, Stoke skipper Jon Armstrong, in a Bronze Helmet race.

It was a step too far for the tiring Kent skipper, with Armstrong taking the title vacated by the injured Lambert.

Kings are in National Fours action at Coventry on Sunday and host Scunthorpe in the National League on Monday (6.30pm).
