Man crashed car at The Street, Benenden, and suffered heart attack

A driver had to be resuscitated at the roadside after his car flipped onto its roof and he suffered a heart attack,

The man in his 60s went into cardiac arrest and had to be revived at the scene near Corner Ways at The Street, Benenden, around 4.45pm last night.

A land ambulance, air ambulance road vehicle and a community first responders car attended.

South East Coast Ambulance (SECAmb) spokesman Rich Airey described the man as being in a "very serious condition" when he was taken to the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford.

The main road in the village was closed for more than two hours, with a fire crew spending an hour dealing with the incident.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to a collision reported to involve a car and two stationary vehicles in The Street, Benenden, at 4.47pm on Sunday.

"Kent Fire and Rescue Service and SECAmb also attended the scene and one man was subsequently taken to a local hospital.

"A road closure was enforced while emergency crews were in attendance and the road was clear by 7.22pm."
