Rocksalt Chef Mark Sargeant joins team behind Hoof and Hook set to open in Tenterden

A new restaurant serving burgers from Kentish Beef and fish from the county's coastline has set its opening date.

Hoof and Hook is set to open in Tenterden's High Street on Friday, December 4.

It will be moving into the former Café Rouge building at 43 High Street.

Work has already started on the building – which was previously the Eight Bells pub – with contractors carrying out changes to the outside of the prime site.

It will become only the second restaurant opened by the company alongside its flagship eatery in Rye, which is now entering its fourth year.

Unlike its predecessor, which specialises in burgers made from meat taken straight from company owner Oliver Furnival’s farm on the Romney Marsh, Hoof and Hook will also include fresh fish from the coast.

In a post on the new restaurant's Instagram page, a spokesman said: "We are very excited to bring you Hoof & Hook in Tenterden.

"We’ve teamed up with Chef Mark Sargeant to take what we’ve done at Hoof in Rye to the next level. Hoof & Hook will be using the same beautiful beef reared on our family farm along with the best quality potatoes grown by us as well.

"We are serving a new twist on our burgers alongside a much larger offer including select cuts of our prime beef as well as other quality, local meats.

"We are also going to make the most of the local coastline and will be serving the freshest fish from the south east coast.

"All in all Hoof & Hook will be a fantastic new restaurant and bar on the high street in the heart of Tenterden."

Mark Sargeant owns the award-winning Rocksalt hotel in Folkestone among others, and will be joining the team to aid them in planning the food.

Owner Oliver Furnival said: "Mark has come on board with us as chef director. He will be creating the menus alongside Chef Ray Thompson who Mark appointed and has known for over 20 years.

"Mark will be involved in all aspects of the food, as well as as the style of service and the general ethos of the site. He will continue to run his other sites in Kent."

The restaurant's opening date is based on the prediction that the nationwide lockdown will end on December 2 as planned.

If lockdown is extended, the opening will be pushed back respectively.
