Police called to Tenterden after sudden death of man in Small Hythe Road

An investigation is under way after a pensioner died suddenly in Tenterden this afternoon.

Police were called to Small Hythe Road by ambulance crews at 1.22pm after the man's death.

It is not known how the man - in his 70s - died, police are not treating it as suspicious. The man's family have been told.

Witnesses reported seeing several emergency vehicles travelling through the town this afternoon.

One posted on Twitter: "What on earth is going on in Tenterden. 6 police cars, 3 ambulances, incident response lorry gone past now."

A spokesman said: "Kent Police was called by Secas at 1.22pm on 27 May, in relation to a sudden death off Small Hythe Road in Tenterden.

"A man in his 70s has been pronounced dead at the scene and his family has been informed.

"There are no suspicious circumstances."
