An opportunistic thief went home disappointed... after finding out a flat screen TV stolen from the back of a car on Christmas Day was broken and on its way to the dump.

Whoever took the black Sony Bravia 32ins colour TV in Broadway, Sheerness, must have thought their luck was in when they saw it.

But police have now confirmed it was beyond repair and was lying in the vehicle ready to be chucked away.

A male suspect wearing a blue tracksuit and blue bandana with white flecks was seen carrying off a television from the area at around 9.39am.
