Big bids needed for little works of art

Artist Tracey Emin

Margate artist Tracey Emin, actress Barbara Windsor, Kent comedian Joe Pasquale and veteran broadcaster Michael Aspel are among celebrities whose colourful creations are now hanging in place for the Pilgrims Hospices postcard auction in the town.

The miniature works of art, all submitted anonymously as 6x4 inch postcards, are now on public display at the Harbour Arm. With contributions from local artists, patients and supporters, there are now 100 postcards ready to be auctioned off to the highest bidder on Saturday afternoon (September 7).

Karen Kenward, regional fundraising manager for Pilgrims Hospices, said: “After weeks of anticipation it has been very exciting watching the postcards coming in. They are all of a very high standard and such different styles. Some are even quite cheeky. There’s something to catch everyone’s eye.”

The display is open daily and there is an online gallery for prospective bidders to enjoy a sneak preview. Karen said: “We hope to see lots of support for the auction with all the money raised going straight into the running of our three hospices in east Kent.

Part of the fun is guessing whose postcard is whose and we expect some surprises when the artists are revealed.”

The auction will run from 3pm to 6pm. The remainder of the postcards will be sold for a minimum donation of £10.
