Royal Harbour Academy pupil tests positive for Covid-19

Twenty-five pupils at a secondary school in Thanet have been told to self-isolate after a Year 7 student tested positive for Covid-19.

Royal Harbour Academy in Ramsgate reported today that the youngster had contracted the virus.

In line with procedures, the pupil's classmates and five staff members will have to isolate as a precautionary measure.

The school is also undergoing deep-cleans in any area the infected pupil had been in.

In a letter to parents, head teacher Simon Pullen said: "Unfortunately we have had a Year 7 pupil test positive for Covid-19.

"We have followed instructions from Public Health England and have contacted all those students and staff who need to be isolated as a precautionary measure.We are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"Please be reassured that for most people coronavirus will be a mild illness.

"All other students and staff are to continue to attend school as normal but I would like to remind you to follow the guidance from the Government about how to combat Covid-19.

"I would like to thank you all for your understanding during these worrying times and would like to remind you of the importance of informing us immediately if anyone in your bubble tests positive for Covid-19.

There have been 19 recorded coronavirus cases in Thanet this month, and 955 since the pandemic began.

The Isle's infection rate is currently among the lowest in Kent.
