A historic seafront restaurant and hotel's £500,000 revamp has been unveiled.

The Royal Albion in Broadstairs underwent 10 weeks of renovations, through which the business remained open.

Historic floorboards have been revealed in the restaurant, and five of the 247-year-old venue’s 21 rooms have been redecorated.

Owner Shepherd Neame says it has tried to keep the old buildings' “own unique style and character while introducing a contemporary feel”.

General manager Marc Duvauchelle said: “We are absolutely delighted with the finished results of this project, and have already received great feedback from customers.

“Our refurbished rooms really offer a premium experience for guests, and the investment in the restaurant has ensured that we make the most of our hotel’s fantastic seafront location.”

The business recently made a U-turn on its cashless policy after backlash from residents.

Mr Ducauchelle “recognised the inconvenience to customers” and backtracked after “careful consideration”.
