About 850 people breaking down lockdown rules were moved on from sunny Thanet beaches yesterday.

Numerous groups of people took no notice of the "stay at home" message as they flocked to Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs.

A tweet from the Kent Police Thanet Twitter account said: "Officers have today engaged with and moved on roughly 850 people in breach of regulations across Thanet's beaches.

"We understand the frustrations that come with warm weather and thank the silent majority staying home and protecting our communities."

The surge in people ignoring lockdown rules along Thanet's coast came a day after the Coastguard reported peak call-out figures on VE Day.
