A CATERING student from Kent outclassed his colleagues to triumph in a top competition for the second time.

Jakub Winkowski, from Thanet College, won over the judges with his complex menu, including ballontine of foie gras and tea infused rice, to take the top prize in the student final of the esteemed Escoffier competition at London’s Hammersmith College.

The judges said Jakub, 26, “far outshone the other competitors” and the quality of his dishes “matched those of the professionals competing”.

'Kuba’ as he’s better known, has always had a love for cooking. He moved from Poland to do the professional chef course at Thanet College as there was no similar opportunity available back home.

Head of catering and hospitality at the college, Roger Phillips, said: “Kuba is enthusiastic, hardworking, and ambitious."
