Broadstairs: Armed police arrest man on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon

Armed police have arrested a man after reports he had an offensive weapon in public.

Police were called shortly after midday to a supermarket in Margate Road, Broadstairs, following a report that a man had been seen acting suspiciously.

He is said to have entered several stores in the Millennium Way area, but no threats were made to staff or members of the public.

Officers, including armed ones, attended and arrested a 34-year-old man from Broadstairs in the Rumfield Road area at about 1.40pm on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

He was later released without charge.
