Police and bomb disposal team cordon off Westgate Bay Avenue, Westgate

Police and the bomb disposal team are currently at the scene of an ongoing incident in Westgate-on-Sea .

Pictures show part of St Mildred's Road and Westgate Bay Avenue have been cordoned off by officers.

Police have taped off the area

There are also reports that homes in the area have been evacuated.

One witness said there are reports of a suspicious package in one of the flats.

Officers have been standing guard after establishing the cordon in the residential area since this morning, eyewitnesses said.

Police and the bomb disposal unit are at the scene

A police spokesman confirmed two objects have been found inside the property in Westgate Bay Avenue.

In a statement, the force said: "Kent Police officers are currently in Westgate Bay Avenue, Westgate-on-sea, to assist with a cordon whilst experts from the Ministry of Defence Ordnance Disposal Unit assess two objects that have been found."

It has not yet been confirmed what the suspected items are.
