An 11-year-old boy was left bleeding from his head after he was pelted with a rock at a bus stop.

The Year 7 pupil, from Margate, was waiting to travel home from Hartsdown Academy just after 3pm on Monday when the attack happened.

His mum, Debbie-ann Griffiths, says he felt a sharp pain in the head before turning to find an older pupil had thrown a rock at him.

"He didn't know what was going on, then his friends said a boy had thrown a rock at his head," she said.

"It's disgusting."

The mum says she was left "fuming and so upset" for her son, and reported the incident to the police immediately.

Police say they are liaising with the school about the incident.

A spokesman said: "It was reported that a boy had been hit by a rock that had been thrown by another boy in George V Avenue, Margate shortly after 3pm.

"No serious injuries were reported.

"Officers are liaising with the school involved as part of enquiries and anyone with any information is asked to call Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/235411/21."

Hartsdown Academy has been approached for a comment.
