Mean Damien Price repaid his brother's kindness... by burgling his home and stealing electrical equipment.

The 25-year-old claimed he was struggling for a place to live when brother Daniel invited him to stay at his home in Appledore Close, Margate.

But a jury at Canterbury Crown Court heard how he took advantage and raided the home while his brother and his family were away.

Price, of Ramsgate Road, Margate, denied stealing a mobile phone and an iPod during the burglary, but was convicted and jailed for 40 months.

Judge Heather Norton told him: "You pleaded homelessness and poverty and you were given support.

"You repaid that trust by throwing it back into their faces and committing a burglary at your brother's home.

"You have an appalling record – which includes 13 previous convictions for theft. You were convicted on clear and strong evidence."

She said the burglary happened just 11 days after he was given a community order for theft and failing to surrender for bail.

Because of his previous convictions, Price faced a minimum three-year jail sentence as a "three strike" burglar.
