Ageing and damaged bricks in a chimney caused a fire which spread across a roof in Broadstairs.

Fire crews were deployed to Albion Street just before 11.40m yesterday to tackle the blaze.

Flames had spread from the chimney to the house's roof plate and rafters.

Crews, who arrived in four fire engines, managed to contain the fire and prevent any further damage to the home.

Having made safe the property, they left the scene at 1am.

The roof suffered partial fire and water damage and crews fitted a temporary covering. There were no reported injuries.
