Consultancy firm PwC has been appointed to review the process so far on decisions about the future of Manston Airport.

Transport minister John Hayes said: “The independent consultancy we have appointed will strengthen the ability of Thanet District Council to find the right deal to secure Manston’s future.

“I am determined to deliver on the Prime Minister’s commitment that the government does all it can to support the people of Thanet, to create more jobs and to boost the local economy.

“That’s what our long-term economic plan is all about.”

The decision to appoint an independent consultant was made by the Department for Transport after Thanet District Council was unable to agree a suitable indemnity partner in a compulsory purchase order (CPO).

Mr Hayes announced that the government would appoint external consultants to review the CPO papers during a visit to the airport site earlier this month.

Speaking at the time he said: “I recognise the strong interest in keeping Manston Airport open which is why the government is leaving no stone unturned in the battle to secure its future.

“The consultant will review papers from RiverOak and Thanet council and determine decisions about the future of Manston.”

PwC will report back to the Department for Transport and Thanet District Council in May 2015.
