A creepy clown has been spotted banging on shop windows, creeping up on cars and scaring locals in Kent.

Videos have emerged this week of a man dressed as Pennywise from Stephen King’s It roaming the streets and seafronts of Margate and Broadstairs.

Pub and restaurant goers were shocked to find the terrifying character peering through the glass at them whilst holding his signature red balloon and half a blood-soaked arm.

In a clip taken outside the venues a police car can be seen driving past him as he waves.

'Pennywise' has also been spotted lurking in some of the town's car parks before banging on the windows of unsuspecting motorists.

Another video of the clown shows him pounding the door of the Palace Cinema in Broadstairs, where he screams 'Would you like some cotton candy' at an employee who ignores him.

His appearance sparked memories of the 2016 so-called "killer clown" sightings where people disguised themselves as evil clowns near forests and schools.

But most residents have taken kindly to his friendly antics, with many attempting to locate him to pose for photos and selfies.

Pennywise is the main antagonist in Stephen King's 1986 horror novel of the same name.

The book was later modified for TV and film where the clown preys upon children in a small town set in the USA.

A Facebook page, Halloween Thanet has been set up for locals to share sightings of the notorious Halloween villain.

Various people have shared images of their kids posing with the prankster at various different landmarks.

Some parents say they have even been asked by their kids to go "clown hunting".

And whilst the man behind the mask does not reveal his route to residents he encourages them to follow the "smell of the cotton candy".

“I will be lurking in and around Ramsgate this evening, come and say hi,” he posted on his account.

“If you’re not too scared remember they all float down here, remember keep your eyes peeled.”
