A discarded cigarette end is believed to have started a fire in a block of flats.
Two fire crews put out the blaze in Harold Road, Cliftonville, Margate, on Sunday at 1.50pm just as many were watching the England v Panama world cup game.
Firefighters arrived after reports of smoke coming from the four-storey building and, using breathing apparatus, found a fire on the landing of the fourth floor.
It was put out with a hose-reel jet connected to a nearby fire hydrant in the street.
Crews then fitted smoke alarms in the communal areas of the property.
There were no reported injuries.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "The fire is believed to be accidental and caused by a discarded cigarette."
