A woman has denied causing the death of a motorcyclist by driving carelessly.

Patricia Storey, 66, of Conyngham Close, Ramsgate, was at the wheel of a black Ford Mondeo in the town’s Stirling Way when she allegedly moved into the path of Brett Appleyard.

Mr Appleyard - a 24-year-old described as a “top bloke” - was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident on the night of October 2 last year, prosecutor Anna Kashingwe told magistrates in Folkestone last Wednesday.

Represented by solicitor Richard Graham and dressed in a light blue cardigan, Storey spoke only to enter a plea of not guilty and confirm her age, name and address.

She was released on unconditional bail and will appear before Canterbury Crown Court for trial on January 7.
