Police search for driver after Ford Fiesta hits Canterbury Christ Church University campus in Broadstairs

Police are searching for the driver of car that left the road and smashed into the side of a university building.

Officers were called at 7.45am to the Canterbury Christ Church University campus building in Northwood Road, Broadstairs.

The driver of the blue Ford Fiesta fled the scene and officers are now trying to track the driver down.

The car had left the road, cut across a grass verge and ploughed through a hedge before hitting the university building's wall.

Police spokesman Andy Saunders said: "We were called at 7.45am on Sunday, September 20 when it was reported that a car had collided with a building on Northwood Road, Broadstairs.

"It was reported that the driver of the vehicle had left the scene. Officers have contacted security at the site and inquiries are on-going to locate the driver."

The Ford Fiesta is the third car to hit a building in Thanet over the weekend.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a two-car accident outside the Secret Spices restaurant in Margate damaged the Indian restaurant.

And just hours later on Saturday night, a BMW left the road in Trinity Square, Margate and smashed into a house.
