Drunk who staggered towards oncoming train at Ramsgate Station jailed

A drunk who staggered towards an oncoming high speed train while carrying a weapon has been jailed.

British Transport Police (BTP) Kent announced on Twitter this morning the man was handed a six-month jail sentence following the incident.

The crime, which happened around August 17 at Ramsgate Station, resulted in the suspect being charged for trespass, possessing an offensive weapon and a public order offence.

Tweeting shortly after the August incident BTP said: “A male who was drunk that staggered onto the tracks towards an oncoming high speed train at #Ramsgate has been charged with Trespass, Possessing an Offensive Weapon (knuckle duster) aswell as a Public Order offence. Well done to @Se_Railway staff that intervened. #YouVsTrain.”

Now, the suspect has been sentenced to six months in jail after being convicted in court of trespass and possessing an offensive weapon.

In an update BTP tweeted: "The male has been convicted at court for Trespass on the Railway and Possessing an Offensive Weapon. He has been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment."

Police have been approached for comment.
