Fifty ships, small and smaller, have left Ramsgate to recreate a journey they took 70 years ago.

The vessels are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation, known as Operation Dynamo.

Under slate grey skies and with rain falling, the ships have begun to plough across the Channel, escorted by royal Navy ship HMS Monmouth.
