Emergency services were deployed to a train station near Ramsgate after reports of a man on the loose with a firearm.

The response was triggered when reports were received on a man on the tracks with a gun.

British Transport Police (BTP), the National Police Air Service and SECamb were sent to the scene at Dumpton Park, near Ramsgate, yesterday morning.

However, BTP later confirmed via social media that the incident was a hoax call.

In a tweet just after 8.30pm last night, BTP reassured residents who may have been alarmed at the large police presence.

The post said it related to a call regarding a man with a firearm on the tracks and had now been confirmed as a hoax.
