Netflix drama Top Boy filmed in Margate

Familiar sights around the isle will soon be aired to millions on Netflix as filming continues on gritty drama, Top Boy.

Crews arrived in Northdown Road yesterday morning to film at Polish supermarket, Nazsa Biedronka after stints at the Lido and in Ramsgate.

In Cliftonville Avenue the Viking Gallery is being used as a 'green room' for crews and the snooker club is also sharing facilities as they continue shooting today in Ethelbert Crescent.

The drama first launched on Channel 4 in 2011 and stars grime artist, Kano and actor, Ashley Walters.

It follows the story of drug dealers Dashane and Sully as they navigate life around the fictional Summerhouse estate in Hackney.

Despite good reviews the series was canned in 2014 but received a lifeline after a move to Netflix found them a new global audience.

Fortuitously, Canadian rapper, Drake watched the show and soon became an avid fan.

The mega star is now an executive producer of the third series which will feature ten episodes and launch next year.

In a further isle twist tracks by Mercury-award nominated musician, Ghostpoet featured in both series of Top Boy.

The haunting track, Finished I A'int is the intro to series one and Cold Win features in series two.

The award-winning artist moved to the town one year ago to set up Radio Margate with partner Kate.

Located on Cliff Terrace it has a cafe, recording studio and provides an online radio station.
