Sands Hotel owners have bought the former Woolworths building on Margate high street for almost £2 million.

The building has stood empty since Woolworths all over the country closed in 2008.

It has now been bought by Brede Estates Limited for £1.98 million, which is directed by John Adams and Nick Conington.

Nick Conington is also the owner of Sands Hotel in Margate, having bought the derelict building at auction in 2011.

Documents on the Land registry website show that the property, at 31-33 High Street, was bought by the company on Wednesday, September 20 this year.

After Sands Heritage went into administration in 2016, Mr Conington resigned from his role as executive chairman, as did Mr Adams from his role, back in May.

Mr Conington also was a portfolio manager at Arrowgrass from 2008 to 2012.
