Four people have been arrested after a confrontation at a protest site

Protestors have occupied the site in Duke Street, Margate, since Tuesday last week, in an effort to stop developers felling a sycamore tree to build a five-storey block of flats.

Police were called at 12.15pm on Bank Holiday Monday, to reports of a disturbance at the camp.

Officers arrested two men on suspicion of criminal damage, and a third man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of common assault.

All four people were also arrested on suspicion of affray, and remain in custody while enquiries continue.

But police have this morning confirmed that all four have now been released without charge.

The Save The Duke campaigners believe the sycamore tree should be protected and are calling on Thanet District Council to rethink its decision to allow the felling.
