Bomb disposal teams were called out to Broadstairs beach after an unexploded device was found.

The ordnance, believed to have been a wartime grenade, was detonated in a controlled explosion by Army experts this evening.

It is not yet known how the device was discovered, or whether it posed a risk to the public.
