Horse hit by car on A256 Haine Road, Ramsgate, near Lord of the Manor roundabout

A horse has been hit by a car after being spotted running loose on a busy dual carriageway.

Police were called to the A256 Haine Road in Ramsgate at around 5.30am, after the animal was knocked down near the Lord of the Manor roundabout.

The road was closed for about an hour while officers dealt with the incident.

The horse - which is not thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries - has been taken to a vet for treatment.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The road had reopened by 6.45am and traffic has since cleared.
