A video has been taken showing huge flames at the former depot of a now defunct travel firm.

The footage, by Mark Young, shows the large fire, understood to be burning tyres, at the vacant Carol Peters Travel premises in Manston Road in Ramsgate.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed firefighters were sent out to the blaze on Wednesday night at around 8.30pm.

"We were called to reports of tyres alight on a commercial premises," she said.

"One fire engine was sent to the scene and crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire."

It took firefighters over two hours to put the blaze out.

Family firm Carol Peters Travel, which was run by Peter and Carol Howe for more than 20 years, closed down earlier this month due to financial problems, leaving customers in the dark over whether trips would go ahead or if they would get their money back.

The company ran coach excursions throughout the UK and Europe and had offices in Westgate-on-Sea and Deal.

It provided coach holidays, day excursions and theatre trips.

The company has been contacted for a comment on the closure, but has not responded.
