Yellow was the colour, charity was the name as 334 brightly dressed fun runners took part in the annual Thanet 5k event in aid of the Pilgrims Hospices.

The race, which was started at the Oval bandstand at Cliftonville by kmfm presenter Spencer James and assisted by the station's ground crew, attracted double the number of runners from the previous year.

Deborah Kellond, regional fundraising manager for the Pilgrims Hospices, said: "It was a fantastic success. Competitors from tiny tots in buggies to older women on mobility scooters took part and it was a real family event."

The winner of the men's race was Jamie Bailey, 17, in a time of 17min and 33sec. The fastest woman was Sarah Hinton, who came home in 22min 7sec, while the winner of the under-16s event was Asa Bailey in a time of 19min 30sec. Lewis Ford won the under-11s category, crossing the line after 23min 53sec.

Runners are reminded to hand their sponsorship money to the organisers by the end of the month.
