Asylum seekers found after boat and lifejackets abandoned at Louisa Bay, Broadstairs

A boat and lifejackets have been abandoned at a beach after asylum seekers made the perilous journey across the Channel.

They were spotted at Louisa Bay, Broadstairs, shortly before 8am today.

Pictures have revealed a black boat near the shore and lifejackets strewn across the beach and seafront.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police assisted Border Force following a report of suspected asylum seekers near Louisa Bay, Broadstairs shortly before 8am."

The number of people found is yet to be confirmed.

The Home Office has been contacted for more information.
